Setting GNOME's Window Manager

Until GNOME 2.12, setting a window manager other than Metacity in GNOME involved simply changing a gconf key. Now one must set the WINDOW_MANAGER environment variable to the path to the desired window manager.

This is most simply done in the ~/.gnomerc file:

export WINDOW_MANAGER=/usr/bin/xfwm4

See this, for example, for more details.
