2. Do EACH of the following activities:

  1. Predict what would happen if you placed an iron nail in a copper sulfate solution. Then, put an iron nail in a copper sulfate solution. Describe your observations and make a conclusion based on your observations. Compare your prediction and original conclusion with what actually happened. Write the formula for the reaction that you described.
    • Brief Discussion of activity series. Demos:
      • Copper sulfate thing before
      • Sodium or Potassium samples, put them in water to demo activity series again. Shows that there is oxygen and hydrogen in oxygen. Explain that some things just aren't normally found in pure form because they are too reactive.
        • Example: sodium and chlorine are both very dangerous. But after they combine (react), the product is not harmful at all.
