The Putnam exam.  I couldn't help but think this...

BTW, this one was actually done well on time, but a mistake in my
comments made my text2html script cause the update process to die...

Purple (lecturer): If you do well on the Putnam exam, you can win grad
    school at Harvard for free.
Purple: I think you all should try to take it.  It's very hard.
Green (in class): Don't you think that if we were good enough to do
    well, we would get a fellowship at Harvard anyway?
Green: So there's no point in taking it.
